Purpose of the Position

The Cleaner plays a vital role in maintaining a hygienic, safe, and welcoming environment within the clinic. This position ensures compliance with health standards and supports the smooth functioning of healthcare services by performing cleaning and housekeeping duties.


Key Responsibilities

  • General Cleaning & Housekeeping:
    • Dust, sweep, polish, scrub, mop floors, and clean windows, walls, and equipment.
    • Remove refuse and waste products in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Waste & Linen Management:
    • Ensure effective waste disposal and linen handling procedures.
    • Adhere to infection control standards and safe disposal practices.
  • Equipment & Material Handling:
    • Operate cleaning machinery and equipment safely and efficiently.
    • Ensure proper utilization and storage of cleaning materials and supplies.
  • Support Services:
    • Provide assistance to supervisors and colleagues with general housekeeping duties.
    • Maintain a hygienic and safe environment in compliance with departmental standards.

Knowledge & Skills Required

  • Knowledge:
    • Correct methods for handling and disposing of refuse and waste products.
    • Policies and procedures related to cleaning practices in healthcare facilities.
    • Basic understanding of health and safety regulations.
  • Skills:
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to operate cleaning machinery and equipment.
    • Physical ability to lift and move heavy objects and supplies.
    • Willingness to rotate to other clinics within the sub-district when required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education:
    • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Experience:
    • Appropriate cleaning experience in a healthcare environment is desirable.

Salary & Benefits

  • Annual Salary: R138,486 – R163,131 per annum.
