About the Role

The Department of Health is seeking motivated and detail-oriented individuals to join the Logistics Directorate as Housekeepers. This role is vital for maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, and safety standards across hospital facilities. Successful candidates will supervise housekeeping operations, manage resources, and ensure compliance with infection control regulations.


Minimum Requirements

  • Educational Qualification:
    • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Experience:
    • No experience required.
    • Added Advantage: 3 years relevant experience in housekeeping or cleaning supervision.
  • Competencies:
    • Computer literacy.
    • Ability to work under pressure and in a team environment.
    • Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
    • Strong communication, numerical, organizing, and supervisory skills.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Understanding of housekeeping procedures and hygiene standards.
  • Ability to manage stock levels and equipment effectively.
  • Knowledge of infection control and safety regulations.
  • Planning and organizing skills for resource allocation and staff supervision.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervise the provision of housekeeping, cleaning, safeguarding, and maintenance services.
  • Ensure cleanliness, tidiness, hygiene, and safety in all allocated areas.
  • Monitor and maintain cleaning equipment to ensure functionality and proper utilization.
  • Keep accurate records of stock levels and equipment used in the work area.
  • Oversee ordering, receiving, storage, stock control, and stock-taking processes.
  • Identify hazards in buildings and offices, including fire and electrical risks.
  • Ensure compliance with instructions for the utilization and storage of materials and equipment.
  • Verify that all areas comply with infection control and hygiene regulations.
  • Supervise human and physical resources, including staff allocation and performance monitoring.
  • Compile staff job descriptions and performance work plans.
  • Conduct performance reviews, motivate staff, and facilitate disciplinary measures when necessary.

Salary & Benefits

  • Annual package: R193,359 per annum.
