Job Purpose

The Cleaner is responsible for ensuring that the interiors, furniture, fixtures, and other facilities within offices and public establishments remain clean, hygienic, and safe at all times. The role plays a critical part in maintaining a professional and welcoming environment for staff, visitors, and stakeholders, while also contributing to the health, safety, and overall operational efficiency of the organization.


Remuneration and Benefits

  • Salary Scale: R159,936.00 – R186,936.00 per annum
  • Estimated Remuneration Package: R236,535.00 – R270,901.00 per annum (including applicable benefits)

Application Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must:

  • Be able to perform cleaning duties consistently and effectively.
  • Demonstrate basic literacy skills to understand instructions, policies, and safety procedures.
  • Have relevant experience in performing cleaning tasks (advantageous, but not strictly required).
  • Be physically fit and in good health, with the ability to stand, bend, walk long distances, and carry out manual tasks throughout the day.
  • Be willing to undergo a criminal record check and allow fingerprints to be taken by the Tshwane Metro Police Department at own cost.

Primary Functions

The Cleaner will be expected to perform a wide range of cleaning and support tasks, including but not limited to:

General Cleaning Duties

  • Sweep, vacuum, wash, and polish floors to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Clean, dust, and polish furniture, fixtures, and fittings to ensure cleanliness and professional appearance.
  • Beat dust out of carpets and ensure rugs are free of dirt and stains.

Kitchen and Food Preparation Areas

  • Clean kitchens and assist with general kitchen work, including dishwashing.
  • Disinfect and sanitize all kitchen surfaces to maintain hygienic conditions.

Waste Management

  • Pick up rubbish and empty garbage containers.
  • Safely transport waste materials to designated disposal or recycling areas.
  • Ensure compliance with waste management and recycling procedures.

Bathrooms and Sanitary Areas

  • Clean, disinfect, and deodorize bathrooms and toilets.
  • Refill consumables such as toilet paper, hand towels, and soap dispensers as needed.
  • Monitor facilities for hygiene and report maintenance issues immediately.

Furniture and Goods Handling

  • Carry furniture and goods to and from offices as required.
  • Assist with the loading and unloading of furniture and goods onto and from vehicles or trucks.
  • Support event setups or office relocations by arranging furniture and equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment, including the safe use of cleaning chemicals.
  • Understanding of health and safety standards, including Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) compliance.
  • Ability to perform cleaning tasks efficiently and systematically.
  • Good interpersonal skills to work well with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Strong attention to detail, ensuring no area is overlooked during cleaning.
