Minimum Requirements

To be considered for these internship positions, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be in possession of a Degree or Diploma in Communication or Public Relations, recorded on the National Learner Record Database (NLRD) at NQF Level 6 or higher.
  • Computer literacy will be considered a strong advantage.
  • Must be a South African citizen with a valid ID document.
  • Must be between the ages of 18 and 35 years.
  • Should be unemployed graduates, currently not participating in any other internship programme.
  • Must not have previously participated in the SAPS Graduate Recruitment Scheme.

Core Functions

Successful candidates will support SAPS communication and PR units in the following areas:

1. Event Management Support

  • Assist with the planning, organisation, and execution of SAPS events.
  • Coordinate logistics, invitations, and follow-up communication.
  • Ensure branding and promotional material align with SAPS communication standards.

2. Communication Administration

  • Circulate official emails and communication to internal staff.
  • Assist with managing incoming and outgoing correspondence, ensuring timely and professional responses.
  • Support the filing, tracking, and archiving of communication records.

3. Media Communication & Public Image

  • Render effective media communication support on core police functions.
  • Draft, review, and edit communication materials, press releases, and media statements.
  • Promote the image of SAPS externally through effective use of media platforms.

4. Internal Communication

  • Promote the image of SAPS internally through optimal use of internal communication platforms such as newsletters, intranet, and staff briefings.
  • Assist in developing content that informs and motivates employees.

5. General Communication Support

  • Provide communication assistance to support campaigns and public safety awareness initiatives.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to SAPS communication policies.
  • Uphold professionalism and integrity in all tasks.

  • All instructions on the application form must be carefully followed.
  • The post particulars and reference number (EC 01/2025 or EC 02/2025) must be correctly specified.
  • Applications must include:
    • A comprehensive CV.
    • Uncertified copies of ID document, National Senior Certificate, and all post-school qualifications (with statement of results).

  • Applications should be submitted to the relevant Eastern Cape SAPS offices, as indicated in the official advert.

Selection Process

  • All shortlisted candidates will undergo:
    • Fingerprint screening.

    • Vetting processes, where applicable.
  • Recommended candidates will be required to sign a 12-month Internship Contract.
  • Placement into the Graduate Recruitment Scheme should not be regarded as a guarantee for permanent employment within SAPS.
