Total Posts Available: 7 Grant Administrator positions + 23 Administration Clerk positions = 30 positions


Organisation Background

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is a government agency established in April 2005, responsible for the administration and distribution of social grants (including Child Support, Disability, Older Persons, Foster Child, War Veteran, and Social Relief of Distress). SASSA’s mission is to ensure accurate, efficient processing and delivery of these grants—underpinned by biometric verification, compliance with the PFMA (Public Finance Management Act), and high standards of customer service.


Job Locations

Various SASSA local offices across South Africa. Allocation of the 7 Social Grant Administrator posts and 23 Administration Clerk posts will be determined regionally (e.g., Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Free State, Western Cape).


Contract Type & Duration

Permanent appointment under the 2025 SASSA recruitment cycle. Includes a probationary period and standard government benefits.


Salary & Grade

  • Grant Administrator (Level 5): Approximately R 216,417 – R 268,950 per annum (excluding benefits)
  • Administration Clerk / Receptionist: Approximately R 216,417 – R 254,928 per annum (excluding benefits)

📄 Minimum Qualifications

  • Grade 12 / Senior Certificate (NQF Level 4) – required for all positions
  • Computer literacy is essential (including MS Office and data-capture systems)

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Diploma or degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Science, Management Science, or a related field (NQF Level 6/7)
  • Valid driver’s license (advantageous)
  • 1–3 years of administrative or clerical experience, ideally in a customer-facing environment
  • Bilingual communication ability (e.g., English plus Afrikaans or local languages) preferred
  • Experience with PFMA Section 57 compliance and strong data quality control

Core Responsibilities

A. Reception & Front-Desk Management (All positions)

  • Greet and assist applicants and visitors courteously
  • Manage incoming calls: screening, redirecting, and logging enquiries
  • Maintain a neat reception area and manage office supplies
  • Sort and distribute incoming mail and courier parcels

B. Administrative & Clerical Duties

  • Coordinate meetings, interviews, and consultations
  • Accurately capture application data into SASSA systems
  • Manage both digital and physical filing systems
  • Provide general office support, including photocopying, email correspondence, and travel logs

C. Social Grant Administration (Grant Administrator-specific)

  • Screen and evaluate grant applications to confirm eligibility
  • Conduct interviews or investigations to gather further information when needed
  • Perform quality control checks on grant documentation and rectify any errors
  • Ensure compliance with PFMA Section 57 regulations
  • Assist with beneficiary maintenance, medical updates, and periodic re-evaluations

D. Administrator

  • Provide clear guidance and status updates to applicants
  • Resolve enquiries and complaints or escalate when necessary
  • Educate applicants about different grant types and eligibility criteria

B. Administrative & Clerical Duties

  • Coordinate meetings, interviews, and consultations
