Position Purpose

The Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Trainee Programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic studies and the workplace. It provides students and recent graduates with practical, real-world experience that allows them to apply their theoretical knowledge, develop professional skills, and enhance their employability.

This structured 12-month programme offers exposure to different business functions through on-the-job training, mentorship, project work, and personal development activities. Participants will gain hands-on experience in their chosen field while contributing to meaningful business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities (Position Outputs)

As a WIL Trainee, participants will be actively involved in a range of tasks across functional areas. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. Task Execution

  • Assist in department-specific projects or work-streams under supervision.
  • Perform routine operational and support tasks to ensure smooth departmental functioning.
  • Support administrative processes, including document preparation, filing, and reporting.

2. Learning & Development

  • Participate in structured training sessions, workshops, and e-learning modules tailored to enhance professional skills.
  • Shadow experienced professionals to gain practical insights and industry exposure.
  • Engage in problem-solving exercises and group projects to develop analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Learn how to apply academic theory to real business problems.

3. Communication & Collaboration

  • Interact with internal teams, suppliers, and customers to understand business needs and processes.
  • Provide regular updates to supervisors on progress and task completion.
  • Serve as a reliable point of contact for queries, demonstrating professionalism and accountability.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to support departmental goals.

4. Research & Analysis

  • Conduct research on market trends, competitors, and industry developments to support decision-making.
  • Gather and analyse data, producing accurate and timely reports.
  • Prepare clear and professional presentations using MS Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Contribute ideas for process improvement and innovation initiatives.

5. Compliance & Safety

  • Adhere to all company policies, standard operating procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Ensure tasks are carried out in accordance with ethical, professional, and compliance standards.
  • Protect the confidentiality of sensitive business information.
  • Promote a culture of safety and accountability within the workplace.

Qualifications and Experience

To qualify for this opportunity, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum Education: Matric certificate or equivalent.
  • Tertiary Requirement: Completion of all theoretical modules towards a Diploma (University of Technology) in one of the following fields:
    • Information Technology
    • Business Administration
    • Supply Chain Management
  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Age Requirement: 18–35 years.
  • Preference will be given to Persons with Disabilities in line with the organisation’s equity plan.
  • No bursary obligations with another company.
  • Must provide certified copies of:
    • Matric certificate
    • Academic record
    • South African ID document
