We are currently recruiting for an Electrical Support Technician to provide hands-on support in maintaining and operating electrical systems and equipment at our Secunda Operations.


Purpose of the Job

To perform electrical maintenance, inspections, and fault-finding on plant equipment and systems. The incumbent will ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations by executing preventive maintenance, repairs, and installations. This role also involves accurate data collection, technical support, and feedback to improve equipment reliability and overall plant productivity.


Key Accountabilities

1. Maintenance and Fault-Finding

  • Conduct inspections, identify faults, and repair electrical systems and equipment to ensure continuous availability.
  • Replace and repair lights, plugs, junction boxes, and light circuits.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks to reduce breakdowns and downtime.
  • Test voltage levels and diagnose issues using multimeters and other hand tools.
  • Execute repairs in compliance with safety and operational standards.

2. Safety and Compliance

  • Apply and maintain strict adherence to Sasol safety protocols, standards, and procedures.
  • Participate actively in daily toolbox talks, Plant Design Analyses (PDAs), and Root Cause Analyses (RCAs).
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices in all work areas and adhere to proper waste disposal procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory electrical requirements.

3. Operational Support

  • Carry out tasks as per planned schedules and work orders.
  • Attend daily morning meetings to align with team work assignments.
  • Provide timely and adequate progress feedback to supervisors and clients.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in own work area.
  • Ensure the correct capturing of history feedback in systems to aid renewals, upgrades, and spare parts planning.

4. Data and Reporting

  • Accurately capture and report inspection and maintenance data.
  • Support RCA teams by providing detailed technical feedback on breakdowns and incidents.
  • Compile and share reports to supervisors on work progress and challenges.

5. Training and Development

  • Identify personal training and development needs, and incorporate into individual development plans.
  • Attend training courses, seminars, and skills development sessions as per Sasol’s training matrix.
  • Stay up to date with latest industry practices and technological developments.

Formal Education Requirements

  • Essential: Grade 12 with Mathematics, Science, and English OR N3 equivalent.
  • Essential: NQF Level 2 Electrical occupational qualification from an accredited SETA or training authority.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 1–2 years’ relevant electrical maintenance experience in an industrial or workshop environment.
  • Experience with:
    • Replacing and repairing light circuits.
    • Preventive maintenance execution.
    • Using electrical hand tools and diagnostic devices such as multimeters.
    • Basic repairs on plugs, junction boxes, and related systems.

Licences and Certifications

  • Valid Driver’s Licence (Code B or higher).
